Program Coordinator of Communications

$22.56/hr. 40 hours/week

Hmong Youth and Parents United (HYPU) is seeking a dedicated and skilled Communications Coordinator to join our team. As a community-based organization committed to empowering underserved communities, we are looking for a passionate individual to help us amplify our message and engage with our diverse stakeholders.


WORK DESCRIPTION

The Communications Coordinator for Hmong Youth and Parents United (HYPU) plays a vital role in advancing the organization's mission. The Communications Coordinator is responsible for assisting the Executive Director in developing and implementing comprehensive communication strategies, creating and managing content across various platforms, ensuring consistent messaging across all departments, building and maintaining media relationships, supporting event promotion and community outreach, managing the organization's website, promoting culture through communication channels, and analyzing communication metrics to measure campaign effectiveness. These efforts are crucial for effectively communicating HYPU's mission, engaging with the community, and promoting the organization's programs and services to support youth and families.


GENERAL ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and implement comprehensive communication plans: Align communication strategies with HYPU's goals and priorities, ensuring they are culturally sensitive and resonate with the Hmong community.

  • Manage all aspects of digital communication:

    • Oversee and maintain HYPU's website and social media channels (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, etc.).

    • Create engaging content, including website copy, blog posts, social media updates, newsletters, and press releases that authentically represent the Hmong experience and HYPU's mission.

    • Monitor social media engagement and respond to inquiries promptly.

    • Conduct social media listening and analyze data to track campaign performance.

  • Manage public relations activities:

    • Build and maintain relationships with media outlets, focusing on those that relate to the organization.

    • Draft press releases and media advisories.

    • Coordinate media interviews and press conferences.

    • Monitor media coverage and track media mentions.

  • Develop and maintain donor communications:

    • Create compelling donor communications, including thank-you letters, newsletters, and annual reports that highlight the impact of HYPU's programs on the Hmong community.

    • Assist with donor stewardship activities.

  • Manage email marketing campaigns:

    • Design, develop, and execute email marketing campaigns to engage donors, volunteers, and the general public, ensuring they are culturally appropriate and effective.

    • Track email campaign performance and analyze results.

  • Support special events and fundraising activities:

    • Assist with the development of marketing materials for special events.

    • Manage event logistics, including registration, communication, and on-site support.

  • Stay abreast of industry trends:

    • Keep up-to-date on the latest trends in digital marketing, social media, and communications.

    • Continuously explore new and innovative ways to reach target audiences within the Hmong community.

  • Any other duties that the Executive Director assigns. 


QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, or related field

  • 2-3 years of experience in a communications or marketing role, preferably in a non-profit setting

  • Ability to work independently, as part of a team, and efficiently with little supervision and direction.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment

  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written.

  • Skilled in Content Management Systems (CMS), such as Adobe Creative Suites, Mailchimp, Canva, Postermywall, or similar software and all social media platforms. 

  • Skilled in web design, photography, and videography.

  • Strong organizational and time management skills

  • Bilingual skills (Hmong and English) are highly desirable

  • Cultural sensitivity and understanding of the Hmong community and other underserved populations

  • Demonstrated technology skills including knowledge of Microsoft Office, and Google Suite. 

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods.

  • Ability to use a computer for extended periods.

  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

  • May require occasional travel within the community.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Must have a valid California Driver’s License with current auto insurance and reliable transportation.

  • Must be able to work nights and weekends as needed.
