$500 Stipend - 30 hours

Hmong Youth and Parents United (HYPU) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, established in 2008 to provide culturally sensitive resources and services to the Hmong and other communities in Sacramento. Our mission is to empower underserved communities by offering culturally sensitive educational, social, and economic services and resources to youth, adults, and parents. Together, we unite individuals to construct a resilient and inclusive community where all can flourish.

 

WORK DESCRIPTION

HYPU is looking for 6 interns who will be primarily responsible for assistance in our outreach efforts. This includes but is not limited to outreach in high-traffic areas, phone banking, door-to-door canvassing, presentations, etc. The Outreach Intern will also be responsible for attending professional training and/or networking events, learning campaign materials, and communicating with community members. Under the supervision of the Program Manager and the Outreach Coordinator, the Outreach Intern will assist them in various outreach efforts pertaining to our mission of culture, family, health, and education. The ideal candidate is excited to work with the community, actively wants to learn, is passionate, and can work with a diverse ethnic, gender, age, and cultural group.

 

GENERAL ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • With guidance from the Program Manager, assist the Program Coordinator with outreach efforts in peer-to-peer and promotional engagements. 

  • Attend professional training or network events as assigned by the Program Coordinator or Manager.

  • Complete 30 hours of training and outreach combined. 

  • Ensures HYPU’s messages are delivered in a culturally appropriate manner. 

  • Maintain and organize adequate documentation regarding assigned projects. 

  • Outreach at some evenings and weekends depending on events.

  • Promptly communicate concerns and suggestions to the Program Coordinator or Manager.  

  • Any other duties that are assigned by the Program Coordinator and Manager.

 

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Ability to work as part of a team efficiently.

  • Has proven client service experience with adaptability in responding to all types of conversation and client-oriented.

  • Maintain transparency and accountability in all communications with the team.

  • Eager to learn about the campaigns to gain the necessary skills and knowledge to succeed and support the team and organization.

  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, self-motivated, diligent, flexible, and personable. 

  • Possesses the ability to expedite and follow up on assigned tasks.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be able to dedicate time during evenings and weekends as needed.

  • Demonstrate commitment to organizational campaign efforts and training. 

  • Must be currently enrolled in college as an undergraduate or a high school senior.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Dependable, motivated, and have strong verbal and interpersonal skills.

  • Knowledge of the Hmong community, as well as the ability to work with other racially, culturally, ethically, and financially diverse populations. 

  • Ability to speak another language other than English.
