Hmong Youth and Parents United (HYPU) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, established in 2008 to provide culturally sensitive resources and services to the Hmong and other communities in Sacramento. Our mission is to empower underserved communities by offering culturally sensitive educational, social, and economic services and resources to youth, adults, and parents. Together, we unite individuals to construct a resilient and inclusive community where all can flourish.
WORK DESCRIPTION
This position will be primarily responsible for the overall management and coordination of all general communications, events for the organization, and supervision of youth interns. This includes but is not limited to producing newsletters, digital communications, announcements, operating manuals, resources, and reports. The Communications Coordinator will also be responsible for planning content based on the organization’s initiatives, events, programs, and issues of importance. Under the supervision of the Director of Programs, the Program Coordinator will be assigned to cross-functional teams and assist in a variety of creative content pertaining to our mission of culture, family, health, and education. The ideal candidate possesses excellent design, photography, and video editing skills. The candidate is also organized, creative, passionate, and able to work with diverse ethnic, gender, age, and cultural groups.
GENERAL ROLES AND RESPONSILITIES
Assess organizational needs, develop and implement plans, strategy, and tactics from inception, design, and development, to tracking measurement results.
Design and maintain appropriate HYPU brand standards through all communications content via merchandising, social media, website, print, newsletter, etc.
Assist in the execution of communications, marketing, community engagement, events, and brand promotion of the organization.
Develop and implement marketing strategies to outreach to targeted audiences and communities of the Greater Sacramento.
Acts as a mentor and caring adult for youth interns.
Supervise and train youth interns in outreach and communications campaigns.
Support websites, newsletters, and social media in marketing and communication plans.
Create and maintain excellent organizational and computer skills including experience with project management for comprehensive documentation, plans, and reports.
Manage and post regularly on social media and online platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok, MailChimp, YouTube, etc.
Collect and analyze data from various social media/communication platforms (e.g., Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, TikTok, MailChimp, YouTube, etc.) using native analytics tools (Facebook Insights, etc.)
Evaluate the success of social media campaigns, identifying trends, patterns, and areas for improvement.
Provide comprehensive support in preparing and analyzing data for grant reports, ensuring accuracy and clarity in all submissions.
Complies with all state and federal laws and regulations, as they pertain to the position; HIPPA, sexual harassment, OSHA, etc.
Any other duties that are assigned by the Director of Programs or Manager.
QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Bachelor's degree, or equivalent work experience.
Must have a valid California Driver’s License with current auto insurance and reliable transportation.
Must be able to work nights and weekends as needed.
Knowledge of traditional and cultural practices of the diverse Hmong community, as well as the ability to work with other racially, culturally, ethically, and financially diverse populations.
Ability to work independently, as part of a team, and efficiently with little supervision and direction.
Maintain transparency and accountability in all communications and work plans with the team.
Eager to learn about the project to gain the necessary skills and knowledge to succeed and support the team and organization.
Adaptable and flexible to changing situations and environments.
Marketing and Communications skills.
Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
Demonstrated knowledge of Social Media and Communication platforms e.g., Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, TikTok, MailChimp, YouTube, etc.
Skilled in editing software, such as Adobe Creative Suites, Canva, Postermywall, or similar software.
Skilled in web design, photography, and videography.
Have at least one year of experience using multimedia equipment and producing videos.
Problem-solving skills with a positive mindsight, insights, and foresight to situations or conflicts.
Demonstrated technology skills including knowledge of Microsoft Office, Excel, PowerPoint (or its equivalent), and Google Drive
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Have a degree related to Design or Communications with 2 years of work experience in the related field.
Have more than 1 year of experience in using multimedia equipment and producing videos.
Have 1-2 years of experience leading and managing youth groups or teams.
Be fluent in Hmong both oral and written.
Advanced knowledge of traditional and cultural practices and arts of the diverse Hmong community, as well as the ability to work with other racially, culturally, ethically, and financially diverse populations.
