Hmong Youth and Parents United (HYPU) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, established in 2008 to provide culturally sensitive resources and services to the Hmong and other communities in Sacramento. Our mission is to empower underserved communities by offering culturally sensitive educational, social, and economic services and resources to youth, adults, and parents. Together, we unite individuals to construct a resilient and inclusive community where all can flourish.
WORK DESCRIPTION
HYPU is looking for a dynamic youth who wants to be apart of the HYPU team. The Youth Intern will assist in the Program Manager and Program Coordinator complete their programming and project goals. Under the direct guidance of the program coordinator, the Youth Intern will support complete assigned task and responsibilities to support the HYPU team. This includes but not limited to supporting social media outreach campaigns, advocacy, video-making, storyboarding, special events, exhibitions, data collection, data input, and youth mentorship. One of their main goal will be assisting and gaining publicity through various social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and many more.
The ideal candidate should not be afraid to have a huge social presence in the community. The Youth Intern is eager to gain new social and cultural experiences and learn on the go. Ultimately, an exceptional candidate for Youth Intern is an active listener, goal-oriented, adaptable in changing an environment and working with people of varying personalities and backgrounds, takes initiative, and is a team player with a growth mindset.
GENERAL ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
With guidance from the Program Manager, Program Coordinator, and Program Associate, support program activities.
Participate in grant programming and activities which include but are not limited to being featured in social media campaigns, short video features, youth ambassador, organization branding and advocacy engagement.
Working in collaboration with the Social Media team and communication coordinator to connect to the brand and potential target audience across various social networking platforms.
Work with the Program manager and Communications Coordinator to create and write relevant content for social media posts.
Staying up to date with the latest trends across all the social media networks.
Adhering to all the guidelines and be approved before publishing on social media.
Propagating genuine and authentic information with high enthusiasm.
Recruitment of youth participants in all program and project activities.
Assist in maintaining and organizing documentation regarding assigned projects.
Ensures a culturally appropriate delivery of HYPU services and programs.
Documentation of activities and data entry.
Outreach to the community both in-person and virtually.
Assist in any other duties as assigned by the Program Manager or Program Coordinator.
QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
High School Diploma
Must be currently enrolled in college
Minimum of two quarters or at least two semesters in college with a career track leading to an Associate or Bachelor of Arts degree.
Must have a valid California Driver’s License with current auto insurance and reliable transportation.
Ability to build relationships via social media platforms.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Excellent and effective public speaking and presentation skills
Speak, read, and write Hmong fluently.
Interests in advocacy and preservation of language and cultural arts in a diverse Hmong community as well as the ability to work with other racially, culturally, ethically, and financially diverse populations.
Ability to coordinate multiple assignments and prioritize.
Ability to handle sensitive and confidential issues in a professional manner.
Ability to work independently, as part of a team, and efficiently with little supervision and direction.
Residency in and /or familiarity with the target area and its cultural diversity.
Maintain transparency and accountability in all communications with the team.
Adaptable and flexible to changing situations and environments.
Have strong public speaking skills and stage presence in large groups.
Demonstrated technology skills including knowledge of Microsoft Office, Excel, PowerPoint (or its equivalent), and Google Drive.
Must be able to work nights and weekends as needed.
Communicate effectively with people of all ages, genders, and diverse ethnic groups.
