Senior Day Rec Program
HYPU created the Senior Day Program in 2019 to address the need for senior engagement, reduce senior isolation, address health disparities, and support senior wellness. The program aims to empower Hmong seniors to live healthier lives and provide culturally appropriate engagement. Since the start of the program, HYPU has serviced 15 Hmong seniors once a week for 4 hours. Even throughout the pandemic, HYPU maintained contact with the Hmong seniors by providing them with tablets and teaching them to use Zoom. Seniors also receive support through group discussions to express their perspectives, feelings, and struggles. This program is facilitated in Hmong with Hmong translated interactive presentations and activities.

The Hmong Senior Garden has been working on a gardening project since the beginning of February 2022. The goal of the Hmong Senior Garden is to educate, preserve the plants, herbs, and vegetables that are valuable for Hmong people, and create a Produce Pop Up for the community. The goal is to share the importance of the plants, herbs, and vegetables to the Sacramento community. They have been teaching the community how to plant and take care of the plants. The Seniors will be able to share how to incorporate the plants, herbs, and vegetables into Hmong meals. The end project is to create a booklet that will be published with all the content on how to garden, take care of your plants, how to incorporate the plants into a meal, and more. Creative content of the Seniors gardening can be found on all of HYPU’s social media platforms.
