Health Equity Initiative
Since March 2020, Hmong Youth and Parents United has partnered with various funders and organizations to support our community through the COVID-19 Pandemic.
What was once just the COVID-19 Program has now switched over to the Health Equity Initiative Program which includes COVID-19 outreach, food and essential items giveaways, financial assistance grants, contact tracing and case investigators programs, business navigators programs, and employment opportunities for youth and the unemployed.
Background:
Our Health Equity Initiative (HEI) Program started at Hmong Youth and Parents United (HYPU) as an effort to support and relieve the community during the pandemic. In our efforts to continue this work, we have implemented a COVID-19 Health Equity Pilot Project called Hmong Lifting Unaddressed Barriers for CBO Capacity Work (HLUB CCW). This project, HLUB CCW, aims to address social inequities, institutional inequities, and living conditions within our community. As part of the work through this project, our HEI team was able to conduct an in person Community Forum that welcomed all community members of District 2 on September 28th, 2022. Through this, we were able to hold a safe space to have open conversations with many of you about various issues surrounding community member’s livelihood. We heard your voices and this thread is here to hold in place the next steps after the forum.
Now:
Since our Community Forum, we have been taking time to thoroughly and thoughtfully review the community feedback. We are currently working on developing a list of resources and a series of workshops based on this community feedback. It is our hope that this resource list will help relieve the issues at hand. Additionally, the purpose of the series of workshops is to supplement the resources available by serving as a guide on how to best navigate access to them.
In the meantime, we encourage all of you to stay up to date with HYPU. Check out HYPU’s website and follow us on our Facebook page to see all of our events, activities, and programs. Councilmember Sean Loloee is currently serving our area, District 2. You can also sign up to receive their office newsletter. Their office hosts consistent events that are open and free to the entire community. Community Conversations with Councilmember Loloee and District 2 office are held monthly on the third Thursday of each month. To learn more about these events and more, we recommend following their social media account: Facebook: CMSeanLoloee.
Please stay tuned for our next steps.
